Night in Shibuya Day after Earthquake

SUp gang, Kxela here from Tokyo- Wanna let you guys know I'm fine :P The earthquake was a magnitude of 3 to 4 in the Tokyo area, so there was some mild to strong shakes during the first strike. There were I hear well over 50 aftershocks, of which at least 20 of them I felt. All of them were for the most part small shakes. Made this vlog last night:

Well, for most of the day the aftershocks continued, at around 5 things seemed to have settled. As much as I worried all day and kept of with the news- Staying home is a terrible time waster, so I decided to head out.

I met up with fellow figure.fm comrade Rurouni Heero, who, I intended to meet up with yesterday but our plans were pretty much crushed by the earthquake. The halting of public transportation and evacuations made it impossible yesterday. Heck, I was at work and had to walk home for two hours, 8km/5miles in distance.

Tonight things seemed to have calmed and we chilled and hung out in Shibuya.

Surprising yet also understandably- for a Saturday night Shibuya Center Gai was absolutely empty compared to a normal weekend.

Took a time lapse of the usually crowded Shibuya crossing. You can tell there was a fewer amount of people than usual:

We did some shopping, chillaxed at starbucks, hit up some games at arcades, and ended the night with some nice drinks.

...and I got to buy shonen jump early today :P Had an awesome time, planning to hang out some more later this month.

The convenience stores all had their premade food and bread type foods sold out everywhere:

Also...I was told not to film stuff from the Starbucks window but uh... I was able to do it "discreetly" using my conveniently sized bic camera bag as you can see in the pics. I felt like I was setting up a spy cam :P lol

I was able to enjoy a Starbucks Seasonal "Sakura Latte"

Yes, even the always packed Center Gai was rather quiet:

But none-the-less, there were still people walking around.

We ended the night at a nice bar with cool food and drinks-

The trains were running even late, it's not uncommon to see tons of people at that time but:

Again, the trains were pretty empty too.

All in all, it was a good way to relieve the worries and stress of the last few days.

Please all pray and support the people who have had a much worse time than us- those in Miyagi and Sendai who were struck the hardest. Don't worry about us in Tokyo, we were merely inconvenienced compared to those guys in the north. Stay strong Japan, may you all be safe...

Tsukkomi! (Tsukuba Comic Festa) 2011

Tsukkomi! (Tsukuba Comic Festa) 2011 was held this weekend in Ibaraki, Tsukuba.

I attended the final day, Sunday. After a Stormy Friday and Saturday, finally it was actually a very nice day to be at this convention this Sunday.

I went after meeting a few awesome folks back in Wonfes last week. While they had a small vendors and Doujinshi circle section, a lot of the focus was on cosplay- Mainly the Open Area and the Cosplay Fashion Show, as well as the Live Shows that were held after the days events.

Tsukuba is a easy trip from Akihabara, one line- the Tsukuba Express.

Main stuff was cosplay, I spent most of my time in the Open area taking the handful of cosplayers there. There weren't too many so, I think I got most of them.

Going to Wonfes, and my first cosplay in years!!

Sup gang. I'm gonna be going to wonfes next week AND am gonna cosplay, I met up with Gixxer85 and went to Akihabara to check cosplay stores out. Fact is I haven't cosplayed in forever (like 2 years) and its the first time I'll be doing so if Frreaking Japan.

Anyways I'm gonna try cosplaying as Katsuragi Keima from The World God Only Knows! I like doing newer anime characters and the Otoshigami is like the only male role I like enough to want to cosplay as :3

Still in the works but I took a preview I guess, I'll have more once Wonfes comes around lol

I need to get a white PSP or make mine White XD;

Arcade Prize: Black Rock Shooter Headphones

Won it at my usual arcade territory- the Taito Arcade Station

Black Rock Shooter Head Phones, created by Banpresto, had three color schemes of Black Green, Black Blue, and Black White, the last one is what I got. Let's check it out. :D

Says "set 4" so I guess there is another color I missed.

Reflec Beat Rhythm Game by Konami

Today I tried out Konami's fairly new rhythm game:

REFLEC BEAT

I played it at Akihabara's Taito Station Arcade,

I was curious as to what kind of game it was.

It's basically like any other music/Rhythm game, you hit notes.

But the visual layout of this game is similar to those table hockey games-

just that a ton of pucks come at you instead of one.

Each puck comes at you according to the Rhythm of the music, and you "Reflec" it back like you would in table hockey. Simple as that. More points for getting it on beat.

Basic levels are just normal reflec backs (notes) and hold pucks (hold notes)

Normal level advances with double notes, an multi-touch requiring the use of more than two fingers at once.

I can see how this would be a great iPad game, the entire interface is on a touch screen panel! It felt like an iPad at the get go. (just thought I'd bring up my opinion on this, since it was one of the first things that came up when I googled this game)

The harder levels were rather difficult, but I had fun on my first try. It'll go on my to play list along with DDRX2 and Jubeat Ripples. :)

Vocaloid Style Dock Headphones

...So, I actually got these headphones a while back, They were actually an arcade game prize (surprise!?) I won pretty easily :P I just didn't have an appropriate iPod to dock it into its special slots to get full benefit.

Comiket 79 Mash Up Report

Hey gang, what's happenin? Comiket 79 has come and gone, It was one crazy week. I didn't have much time since I had to work immediately after comiket, but I can finally blog now that I'm done with New Years work. Lets get started...

This year, I met up with a couple of fellas. Some from our last venture in the summer, and also some new faces joined our party. Of Course, all otaku-like, we met up in Akihabara.

Vroom. Prize "E" from the Lucky Star Lottery Prize.

I think Oreimo had some influence, but we checked out the Gundam Cafe. They had 00 character themed drinks.

...and this rather emotion-less haro roll cake. lol

ANYWAYS ON TO COMIKET-

With a little provoking, our crew ended up doing an all-nighter waiting in line. I think we headed there around midnight. As we knew that the Corporate booths are the best thing to aim on day one, that's what we targetted.

I was initially sent to the Pixiv Booth. As an artist I just seem to prioritize this booth... although you don't have to be so desperate to get stuff from this booth.

Strange thing though, I felt like there wasn't as many people at this Comiket as there usually is...or at least compared to the hell of a Comiket it was last Summer.

The lines however, we're long long long as EVER.

We hung out at Odaiba until the time came...

Turns out the line began before 11:30pm, by the time we found it, I'd say about 300 people were already in line. We did end up pretty far ahead, camping on the top section of Big Sight though. We were able to visit Family mart frequently that night.

Well, Sad to say, I didn't get any Cosplay pics. -_-

But you can search out other blogs for that I guess. It's not like I have a DSLR to take nicer photos with anyways.

Well, that was my little blog dump of Comiket. It was alright this time.

I was totally unprepared and unmotivated as a circle group. The shock hit me pretty hard when I found out I didn't make it in to Comiket 78. So I was kinda in disbelif when I found I made it in this time.

2010 was a hecktic year, so much crazy stuff happened. This year I hope to put focus back into my art and be able to do better in the next comiket. Well then, until next time folks!

Been working pretty hard @ both work and doujin stuff, I went back home to America for a few weeks and came back Last Friday. I'm happy to say I have completed and have the copies of my new Artbook in my hands ready for Comiket:

Code Geass Cafe

Yesterday was the last day "Cure Maid Cafe" in Akihabara was doing their special "Code Geass Cafe,"

as I was informed by a fellow Geass Cosplaying friend of mine. I wanted to check this out so I decided to go check it out since it was my last chance to do so.

I printed a failure of a map, so it took me a while to find,

but turns out it was in a building I've visited before.

It was right above the Gashapon Kai and Gee Store!

was quite excited at this moment XD

Not too surprisingly, there was a little line, so I had to wait a few minutes to get in.

That's when I saw the- DUN DUN DUN

"please refrain (pun?) from the inside of a store taking a picture"

good thing I'm used to Engrish.

Probably the usual non-Japanese reader would give up at this point.

What it DOESN'T say in Engrish was- That if you WOULD like to take

pictures of yourself, food, or others things- Please let the staff know before hand.

I wasn't able to snap a TON of photos, but I did manage a couple of good ones.

(*I snapped this without permission lol)

What surprised me is that- This Maid Cafe is not one of those stupid sugar high cafe's where the waitress maids are trying to look uber cute and make you say stupid things.

It was a quiet and relaxing, honest to goodness CAFE. Except with Waitresses that dressed like maids and ACTED like maids.

It was a bit relieving (I don't quite like those hyper maid cafes) but at the same time a bit disappointing cause I thought they might at least have Code Geass Cosplayers as Waitresses for this special event. Oh well.

I wasn't expecting much from them since it is a maid cafe, but the food was decent.

The walls were decorated with posters, ads, and Character designs from Code Geass R2.

(*I had to ask permission for this one too. And they check your photos)

Other than the bunch of Code Geass stuff that seasoned the cafe and their special menu, it was a pretty normal little maid cafe. (*after paying my check I asked if I can take this photo)

I snapped this on my way out. "All Hail Brittania!!"

Everyone that orders from the Code Geass Special menu gets one of these AWESOME coasters... Or so I thought since the menu said "collect both of them!" but maybe they gave me both since its the last day anyways XD guess I got lucky.

Don't know if I'd go back there again, although it was a pretty nice Cafe with a quiet setting.

Maybe I will, all the more so if they do the Geass Cafe Again.

Those over priced pancakes weren't enough for me so I ended up having Ramen later :3

Application for Comiket 79

All right, so...The darn application deadline for Winter Comiket 2010 or Comiket 79 was just a few...in fact a day after frickin Comiket. I had to help out a friend apply as well so...I had a ton of stuff to do with little time.

These are the application packets I got at comiket.

These are still a requirement, because these are what provide you with

both the application code and online application code.

So I thought- what the heck, I'm gonna go learn how to apply online. I jumped to circle.ms, checked out the application pages and followed the instructions.

SUPER EASY. It totally beats filling out 6 sheets of paper full of info (you just practically fill out 1 form for online registration.) Paying by credit card was also amazingly easy, and best of all: I was able to submit my circle cut DIGITALLY!!!! I added shade and stuff to my circle cut.

My Circle cut is Marisa!!I am going with Touhou again.

However in addition, I plan to do something else also.

Maybe Vocaloid or Black Rock Shooter stuff.

So yes, I am applied for Comic Market 79. Results should be in within ....the next few months. Until then, I better keep on working on my arts :3

Well, again belated, but I should post it for goodness sake.

Comic Market 78, the first Comiket I applied to as a circle and didn't make it in. Might have been a good thing though, I managed to go with bunch of awesome dudes and even got to try out lining up from midnight (that's NO NO kids, you don't line up all night!! *wink*wink*) Anyways, here we go:

Our team assembled at Rinsabers hotel, got a nice view of Ariake from the Daiba Hotel.

Midnight, already peoples have lined up. Wasn't too long though.

There were hotels, convenience stores, Mcdonalds near by.

8 hours later.

Kinda cloudy but it didn't rain on us.

This is the space we'll be waiting for the next 10 hours. We are in the East wing, aiming for the Doujins day 2, Saturday.

So we seemed fairly early, only what, couple sections packed full.

And at 2:00am, right when you think we've settled down,

They make us FRICKIN MARCH. around the area, on the beach and back where we started.

man they really don't like us people who line up from midnight.

And after doing a lap around the entire area, they give in and settle us down.

And we got to leave our stuff and walk about. Thank God.

Rinsaber and I walked around and got food.

I also forgot One Night Stand, I wonder if they were there.

SUNDAY: I past out on Saturday Night, Not waking up til 2am.

Which left me with the only choice of going in the morning.

Rin called me like 10 times lol.Sorry Dude. But we still managed to get some good stuff on day 3.

...I took like no pictures on Sunday. Except Cosplay, which will be in a separate blog post.

Japan Post: Nakano Broadway

Belated, but thought I'd post. Went to Nakano Broadway earlier in August with a bunch of fellows :3

Bunch of us met up at Nakano Station, earlier before Comiket.

Before going in, we had lunch at a Unagi (eel) restaurant.

I had a Tororo Unajyu (Unagi bowl with mountain potato). It was pretty good :3

Back on track

Inside is a ton of stores, many manga/anime shops like mandarake and other specialty stores.

Although, at least a third of the place was Mandarake ^^;

They had a soft serve place, our group sorta split so couple of us had a nice cold snack.

They had some pretty odd flavors, but I went with strawberry lol
